Frequently Asked Questions
What If We Don't own drums yet?
No Problem! We usually recommend starting out our drum students with a pair of sticks and a practice pad. They’re inexpensive and much quieter 🙂
This gives them time to learn some of the basics while discovering if drums is the instrument for them. Once you believe drums are the instrument of choice, we can talk about drum purchase options.
No stress. The important thing is to get started.
What about the noise?
Yep! Drums can be loud. We like it like that 🙂
However, there are less noisy options for the aspiring drummer in your home that won’t require hearing protection for the rest of the family! There are electric drums, acoustic drum dampeners, and drum pad sets. Feel free to call your local FMA office or talk to an instructor about what works best for you.
How often should students practice?
Ideally, a minimum of 15-20 minutes of practice 4-5 days a week would be a great start.
Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. We’ve seen that the more diligent the student is in practice, the quicker their skills progress. However, you also don’t want to over do it! 🙂Â
Your drum instructor will be able to help you assess how long your student should try to practice based on their age and skill level.
