Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't own a guitar?

Don’t have a guitar? No Problem! We can always go over different purchase options that will best suit you student’s needs.

If purchasing a guitar for your home is not an option, you can always have your lessons at the academy and use ours during the lesson. 🙂

Some locations may offer instrument rentals. See your local Freedom Music Academy for more information. If you’re looking to buy your own and need help deciding, check out our Comprehensive Beginners Guide on How to Choose Your First Guitar

The important thing is to get started. Students will have fun learning and playing with confidence!

Which is better: Electric or acoustic?

Let’s face it, they’re both awesome! They both have their own unique sounds and places in a musical setting.

An acoustic guitar can be played without the help of cables and speakers in smaller settings while the electric guitar will need amplification. They both have fun characteristics that make them both a great option!

If you’re unsure which you’d like to start with, your guitar instructor can help you assess your next steps on your discovery lesson and you can also check out our Comprehensive Beginners Guide on How to Choose Your First Guitar.

How often should students practice?

Ideally, a minimum of 15-20 minutes of practice 4-5 days a week would be a great start.

Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. We’ve seen that the more diligent the student is in practice, the quicker their skills progress. However, you also don’t want to over do it! 🙂

Your guitar instructor will be able to help you assess how long your student should try to practice based on their age and skill level.
